Technological advances occurring frequently in the field of collections care require that museums keep current with changing standards in preservation practice. Howell Consulting has extensive experience working with museums to implement new standards in collections care. The Museum of FIrefighting in Hudson, New York, whose collection spans 300 years, engaged Greg Howell to create and implement an up-to-date collections care program that included storage organization and digital documentation as a priority. The new repository for ACBL allowed for complete organization of their media collection.
The upgrade included new flooring, Spacesaver® Archival Shelving & supplies.
Individual items in the ACBL collection were wrapped in cotton muslin and placed in compartments within acid-free boxes.
Artifacts preserved in archival boxes can be instantly located by databases searches.
